What weighs more 2lbs of feathers or 2lbs of my fat??

What weighs more 2lbs of feathers or 2lbs of my fat??.

What weighs more 2lbs of feathers or 2lbs of my fat??

The answer is -they both weigh exactly the same!! That’s the rule you should remember when ever anyone says something to you like ‘I’ve put weight on this week as I’ve been doing loads of exercise and muscle weighs more than fat’ Well its doesn’t it weighs the same and you have to be going some on the dumbells and barbells to gain a few pounds of muscle in a week!

So it’s been a good week for me I lost 2lbs which takes me to 7lb, that’s HALF A STONE in 4 weeks!! Very chuffed and my jeans a even more chuffed that their seams are being put under less strain than they were before! The ‘Just Eat Less’ theory is working for me, which comes as no surprise, it’s the fact that I’m sticking to it that is.  I’m not going to analyse it too much but basically I think I’m gleaning all the little tips and facts that I have learned during every other weight loss mission and I’m trying to eat as much tasty food as possible for the 1200 calorie allowance that’s been recommended to me, recording everything I eat accurately using my fitness pal app and doing bit of regular exercise too.  I’ve been more aware of my body’s signals as to whether I’m actually hungry or thirsty and this is one of the things that I learned during cognitive hypnotherapy sessions.  During these sessions my therapist concentrated on my relationship with food and my non ability to realise when I was full or not hungry/hungry.  One thing I’ve had to really focus my brain on is knowing that it’s ok to stop eating if I am full and that just because the food is amazingly tasty it doesn’t mean I have to eat it all! Over time this way of thinking actually helps me to put less on my plate in the first place or to use smaller plates to make my brain think I’m having a mountain of food even though I’m having smaller portions than I do when I’ve fallen off the wagon!

I’m really interested in the psychology of weight loss or being over weight in the first place.  My therapist told me a story about a girl who’d had a gastric by pass operation who physically couldn’t eat too much food following the operation but could still drink fluids.  She became addicted to starbucks Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino® Blended Crèmes (you know the really chocolaty, creamy calorific looking ones that all the teenagers are walking around with in the see through plastic cups??!) and at 410cals per drink she didn’t need many of them to put weight on.  My therapist was asked to give the girl therapy to try and help her release any psychological issues she had about food and apparently once she had had this she was able to let the by pass do its job. Whether or not it was true I will never know but it does seem like it could be possible for someone to ‘cheat’ an operation like that if their brain wasn’t in the ‘zone’.

For me having the therapy flicked a switch in my brain.  I won’t go into details of what or where my issues with over eating came from but lets just say through her taking me back to times in my childhood (that I chose to revisit) she used techniques to get me to release the negative thoughts around that time and to tell myself that everything is going to be ok. I’m sure there was a lot more to it than that but that’s the bit I remember! For about 2 weeks after the therapy I had such an over whelming feeling of not feeling hungry or not wanting to over eat.  It was AMAZING! It made me think wow this is what someone who has never had weight issues must feel like. They eat when they are hungry, they stop when they are full!  It filled me with so much hope and excitement that I had finally found something that was going to change my life.  Unfortunately, as quickly as that over whelming feeling appeared I felt it slipping away, slowly at first but then an intense realisation that I felt differently again.  During the 3rd week after therapy I felt that I had to force myself not to eat and 1 week later it felt like I was back to how I was before.  I had follow up mp3 tracks to listen to and they helped but the intense feeling had gone.  My therapist never ever led me to believe that it was going to be easy and that I would have to work at retraining my brain but I guess I just gave up.  However, I do believe that I am now tapping back into some of the things I learned during those sessions even though it was a year ago that I had them.  Maybe I was just so disappointed at first that the intense feeling had gone that I gave up and just put it down to another thing that had cost me a lot of money and wasn’t going to work.  If I hadn’t had that therapy though it would be one less tool that is going to help me lose weight this time-for good!

Calorie Gallery Day 5

Well today was weigh in day and I lost 1lb.  There’s not really much I can say about this apart from it’s going in the right direction but I honestly thought I would have lost more than that! Oh well onwards and downwards!!
So todays calorie gallery I have to admit that there is one photo that is not truthful! I bought a sandwich for my lunch this morning as I was going to be out at meetings all day today and thought the food on offer for lunch may be really calorific! So I wanted to be prepared and bought an M&S Count On US sandwich.  Then when I was at one of my meetings they brought lunch in which was chicken salad sandwiches which were not that high in calories.  I felt bad to get my own sandwich out when they had been out especially to get us lunch!  I also felt that they would think I was a little weird to photograph my sandwich! So I have attached the photo of the original sandwich! I’ve also gone over my calories today and while I’m on a roll at confessions, this weekend is probably going to be a massive fall off the wagon as I’m going out for a friends birthday tomorrow night and will no doubt have more than my daily allowance in booze and then hang over munchies on sunday! Eeek! Back on it on monday!

The soreen was a handy snack I had in my bag and sorted me out when I needed a boost this afternoon. Mini hob nobs were a total naughty extra that I shouldn’t have had but they were darn gooood!!
I have got to get back into my exercise routine ASAP! I feel 100% better now so no excuses next week!

Calorie Gallery-Day 4

Well day 4 of my calorie gallery and I have to say I have been a right grump today!  I have had feelings that I want to absolutely gorge on cream cakes and crisps but I didn’t.  I did go over my calorie allowance by 7 cals but compared to what it could have been I’m happy with that! So here are today’s pics:-

2 poached egss, square crumpet & grilled tomatoes 331cal

2 poached egss, square crumpet & grilled tomatoes 331cal

Found these amazing crumpets in Asda they are 144 cals each. They are bigger than normal crumpets which are 98 cals but you only need one where as I would always want 2 normal ones!! I was so full after this I didn’t have anything else until lunch!

Udon noodles & covent garden Kale & bacon soup 188cals

I LOVE the fact that I bought these udon noodles the other day to give them a go thinking that they would never be as nice as the ones you get at wagamamas but they were really nice and only took 4 minutes to cook! I added them to half a tub of covent garden soup. Really enjoyed it and felt very full afterwards! Only 188cals!

coconut activia yoghurt & 6 squares choc 230 cals

Had enough calories left over to have something a bit more than my usual chocolate. I could have had more chocolate but thought I had better have something a bit more healthy! So I had a low fat yoghurt and grated one of the squares of chocolates into it 😉

Its only day 4 of my calorie gallery but it is my weigh in morning tomorrow!! I can’t help feel nervous about it even though I know and have photographic evidence that I haven’t gone over my calorie allowance (drastically) on any of the last 7 days! Wish me luck!!

Calorie Gallery-Day 3

boiled eggs rivitas & extra light philli 258 cals

boiled eggs rivitas & extra light philli 258 cals

Day 3 of the calorie gallery hope this is not boring you?! I am finding it so helpful to do this it’s really making me think before just popping something into my mouth without recording it with http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ or photographing it to put on here. On my first post today I wrote about the decisions behind the eggs, rivitas and extra light philli so if you are looking at this photo thinking I’m a right weirdo see my earlier blogs!

Tuscan Chicken & Orzo soup (Glorious Soup) mixed salad with balsamic vinegar & 65g tuna-241 cals

Tuscan Chicken & Orzo soup (Glorious Soup) mixed salad with balsamic vinegar & 65g tuna-241 cals

My lunch was so yum I wished it would never end but then again I was really full afterwards! If you have not tried any of the ‘Glorious’ soups range yet you are missing a treat! They have a ‘skinny’ and a normal range but don’t be deceived by the skinny range soups, still check the labels, as the some of the soups in the non skinny range are actually lower calories. This one is my fave so far as its so filling and tasty and only 96 cals for half of the tub so you could have the whole lot if you wanted to! Unfortunately my husband wanted the other half so I had to make do with a salad and tuna to bulk it out a bit 😉 It’s amazing, when you don’t have bread with soup,  how much other stuff you can have for less calories and the nutritional content is much better for you!

1 x raspberry yo yo roll-27 cals

1 x raspberry yo yo roll-27 cals

Well hello there bear!! Where have you been hiding? Oh behind that fig leaf?! I saw these in the supermarket today and have never tried them before. Each pack contains 2 yo yo rolls and from what I can tell they are basically blended up fruit & veg that’s then baked and rolled up into a yo yo? Strange but a lovely sweet hit of fruitiness for only 27 calories. The bears have a pretty cool website too http://www.bearnibbles.co.uk/yo-yos/

baby portobello mushrooms with 50g 10% fat feta - 108 cals

baby portobello mushrooms with 50g 10% fat feta – 108 cals

By dinner time I still had 674 calories left woo hoo! So I set about working out what deliciousness I could have!  I absolutely LOVE mushrooms.  They are so versatile and really low calories and fat.  So I decided to make them really fattening by adding cheese to them!! That’s the beauty of feta cheese though -this one is the Apetina 10% fat one and only 87cals per 50g which was a quarter of the pack I bought. The photo shows them pre-oven. I just added one spray of 1cal olive oil, a bit of salt & pepper, a clove of garlic chopped up and spread around the oven dish, about 15/20 mins in the oven and the outcome is amazing! Garlicky cheesy mushrooms!!

what a lotta veg! 149 cals to be precise!

what a lotta veg! 149 cals to be precise!

This is all the veg I roasted -just for me!! It looks a lot but if there is one thing I can do well its eat a LOT of veg! I really like veg, I even love the word! I get really excited if I go somewhere like waitrose or M&S (on the odd occasion) and see a veg that I’ve not seen before!  I also love the veg stalls at farmers markets and seeing the veg with all the mud still on it. We have found a really good farm shop not too far from our house that we are going to try there instead of buying it from the supermarket.  I’ve also been looking into having an Abel & Cole organic veg box delivered but I have never ever done food shopping on line as I like choosing food myself, I like to touch and smell fruit and veg so I can tell how ripe it is but I’m sure the guys at Abel & Cole know their onions 😉  Do you think I used the word ‘veg’ enough in my above paragraph?!

Chicken breast (roasted with spices chilli/cumin/paprika) roasted veg & tomatoes, roasted mushrooms with cubes of feta (50g)-532 cals

Chicken breast (roasted with spices chilli/cumin/paprika) roasted veg & tomatoes, roasted mushrooms with cubes of feta (50g)-532 cals

Et Voila!! Roasted free range corn fed chicken breast, with cheesy garlicky mushrooms and roasted vegetables. No sauce, no gravy because if you stick a few cherry tomatoes in when you roast your veg you can squish them once they are out and on your plate and they give enough juice to add a bit of moisture for no extra calories!!

one of my 5 a day?!?! 129cals

one of my 5 a day?!?! 129cals

No day would be complete without my dear old friend Mr Choc! Tonight though you may notice there is a little added extra treat?! That’s because I had enough calories left to have my 6 squares of Aldi praline chocolate (59p for the small bars and it tastes amazeballs!) and also 1 x cadburys ‘Minty Crunch Bisc Bits’. A total of 129 cals which brings me to a grand total of 1187 cals. I wish I had been this accurate at adding up when I was doing my GCSEs and wish I could budget my finances as well as I can my calories! Come to think of it I wish I could have budgeted my calories this well for the whole of my life up to now-lets hope I can just keep it up for the rest of my life so I get to my goal and STAY there!! Hey ho only 38lbs to go!!!!
On tomorrows blog I’m hoping to do another workout DVD review! I’ve had a cold this week but I’m feeling a lot better tonight (must be all that veg!) so hopefully I can start exercising again-I’ve really missed it for the last few days! x
